Production log 3

Production log 3

What have you contributed to this week?

This week we started with our filming and throughout the week me and my partner have switched the director and filming role as he is better suited with the camera than me, but we have both equally shared each role. During the week we have filmed the majority of the shots, but still have some to do inside school which should work out fine and also we have kept too our filming schedule quite well and have added in a few extra shots as we thought some of the new shots would work better than the ones we already thought of doing, but will still kept the same concept.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

Overall the filming has fit in to our schedule quite well and me and my partner have switched the director and filming roles as it through the first day of filming it seems as the filming role was better for him while director was better for me. Also the footage that we have filmed so far looks like how we want our idea to come out like, which is a good thing.

Were there any problems?

On the first day of filming we did have quite a big problem as the tri-pod was unable to stay in one position, which came to be quite a hassle, so we had to try and find another tri-pod which we did in the end, other than that the filming went quite well.

What are your plans for the following week?

The plans for this week shall be to get the final shots that we need in school of the band performance and also we might upload the footage we have already got and see if we need to re-shoot anything.

Production log 2

Production Log 2

What have you contributed to this week?
This is the second week of pre-production and both me and my partner have finished all of the paperwork towards our music video and have both finished our 100 shot list, so now we are able to know exactly what is happening in each shot of our music video. Also this week we went back to Romford to ask around at stores again but they still disagreed us filming in their stores, but this doesn't matter any more as we have come up with another idea that will we use for that scene of the music video.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?
This fits in with our production schedule quite smoothly as we know exactly what days this week were filming and what were filming. With the idea,we did have to change the location for some of the scenes, but overall that isn't a major disaster, as both me and my partner have talked about it and have decided to film somewhere else.

Were there any problems?
During this week there wasn't any problems as we both had finished the paperwork on time and we know exactly what were doing when it comes to filming.
What are your plans for the following week?

The plans for this weeks will be to start filming the majority of our shots, and luckily there are no problems when it comes to the locations. We have all of the props we need for filming so this week shall go quite smoothly and hopefully when we return to school we would have finished filming the majority of the music video.

Jobs roles and responsibilities

Jobs roles and responsibilities

The main two jobs for this project are:

. Camera Operator & editor
. Director & Production manager

As both me and my partner have combined both of our ideas together we will be helping each other out when it comes to the filming and making sure the other agrees on the shot that is happening at the time. But, I think out of the two allocated jobs I think we both will be sharing each role, as we both have clear ideas in our heads off what we want our music video to look like but I think the allocated role of being Director and Production manger will lead more towards my partner as he is very confident and clear when it comes to explaining things, which will help the filming run smoothly. So overall the main job that I will be doing would be operating the camera, as I consider myself more as an listener rather than giving out instructions, so I think the role would suit me more, but also my partner will be filming as well, as this project is a team effort and its good to even each job out. When it comes to the editing stage of the music video we both will be doing it as it will be done much quicker when were together as we both would know which part goes where. During all production stages me and my partner will help each other out so that the end result of our music video is a cool and good one.

Permission for filming

The locations that we are planning to use for filming are the main actress house, a park or fairlop waters, Hainault Forest and a shopping centre. With all of the locations besides the shopping centre we do not need any written conformation to film, but for the shopping centre with have sent emails asking for permission to film and have even gone round to individuals stores and asking for permission, but unfortunately we haven't been able to get permission from any of them.

This image here is of the email that I have written out and sent shopping centres asking for permission to film. This email here is also towards the London Borough of South walk as I recently contacted the London council and they replied saying to contact this email address asking for permission ,but have not received an email back yet.

This here is a reply I got back from the shopping centre lakeside. Unfortunately we got denied permission for filming in the building itself but she said that individual stores might allow us. The problem with this is that lakeside has quite a lot of big branded stores and from what we have gathered already they don't want us filming inside there store because it might gives other shops there clothing line etc.

I sent an email to the London council asking for permission to film on the southbank. This image here is of an replied email from the London council telling us to contact the London Borough of Southwark for permission to film on southbank, which I have sent of but have not yet received a reply

Production log

What have you contributed to this week?

This is the first week of pre-production and so far me and my partner have divided up the work equally and have started to plan out the dates of filming, and the actual idea in more depth so that we know what to include in each shot. Also during this week we went around looking for stores and asking permission if we would be able to film inside there store and got a reply back from the manager of Lakeside asking for permission to film, but unfortunately she said no to it, but she said that we might be able to ask individual stores.

Reply from the manager of Lakeside

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

With the production schedule it could become an issue, due to not knowing when or if we would be able to shoot the shots we want in the store and maybe result in us changing the idea of those shots, but hopefully that wont become a issue as we both we go out again during the week and asking more stores for there permission to film.

Were there any problems?

During this week the only problem that has came up is that during the weekend we went to Romford to ask shop owners if they would give us permission to film in there store, unfortunately we go denied for filming due to store policy s. Two of the shops we went to said to come in during the holidays and it will be fine, but it doesn't seem the most reliable option as its not for certain that we would be able to film, so it would damage are production schedule. But other than that this week has gone quite smoothly towards the pre-production stage, and now we have also thought out our idea in more depth so we have a clearer image in our heads of what the outcome of the shots will be.

What are your plans for the following week?

For this week the plans are to expand are locations further by visiting other shopping centres so hopefully by the end of this week we might have a place to film the scenes. Also this week we will be finishing off our location recces and getting the cast members to sign the form that shows that they know what they have signed up for, and also we will be finishing off are 100 shot list.

This here is a permission form that me and my partner made
for the stores that we visited, outlining what we plan to do in there store.
Unfortunately  though we didn't get any signed.

Music video pitch and feedback

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give more detail on?

In the presentation I think I would want to give more detail on the target audience section as I think I didn't explain it that clearly and just outlined the small parts of it, and I think if I explained it more such as the ethnicity part of it, its likely that it would of made more sense or so. Also another area that I think could of had more detail would be the song and lyrics section, as I don't think I really talked about it much of how it links in with the music video idea, plus I think I could of spoken louder and a bit more clearer. Also during the presentation I think I could of maybe tried to use a bit more of media terminology, to help back up my points as well.

What did the audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea?

During the feedback part of it the audience didn't really identify any specific strengths of my music video, so I'm taking it as I don't need to improve anything on my actual idea for my music video.

What did your audience identify as areas for improvement?

As an area for improvement someone asked a question about how would I make the artist stand out, and at first I didn't really think it being that much of a deal, but after listening to their ideas on how the artist could stand out at 2:17 as it seems like it could make the music video more engaging to watch and when listening to the audience talk about the ideas of making the artist stand out, to me it sounded like a new fun way to approach the concept of the video. Also the audience raised a point due to the cast and the person I chose to be the camera man as I included the same person to be in both, which I didn't think about beforehand, as it would cause trouble when it comes to filming  but now I suppose I might have to change the male for the cast, or as the in the feedback video the audience talks about combining two video ideas together which involves a blow up doll, so in the end there might not even need to be a male cast member as the doll would represent the male.

what changes will you make to your music video concept based on the feedback you received?

Based on the audiences feedback I have took it into consideration about making the artist stand out more by maybe combing two opposite themes together such as the audience said dressing the artist up in beach clothing and maybe have them in a setting where you wouldn't really see it such as shopping mall, forest etc. Also with the beach theme clothing they could also be holding a blowing up ball or a bucket and spade to make it seem even more ridiculous. Also as my music video concept is too do with an relationship, maybe one of the partners could be all dressed extravagantly while the other one is dressed in casual clothing. Also from the feedback that I received I gathered that the song that I chose would better fit another persons video concept, which I think is a good idea as the audience said that the song I chose has more of a humorous and energetic feeling and tone to it and that would go better with the blow up doll concept.
