What have you contributed this week?

Overall this week there wasn't really much we have done as all  we needed to is add the final touches to our music video such as matching the lip sync more and adding in a few more close ups in certain shots we didn't take us long to do at all. After we had finally finished it we uploaded it to YouTube, and I am quite happy how it has turned out.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

It fits in with our production schedule as we have finished our music video on time and overall I think our music video has turned out quite good and how looks how we wanted it to.

Were there any problems?

During this week there was no problems at all as we new what we had to add to our music video to make it better and it didn't take the long to do. Its quite a good thing that there wasn't any massive things we needed to change in our music video as it may of took slightly longer to get it all back in place and match the tempo of the song.

What are your plans for the following week?

The plans for the following week are to complete regulations and constraint forms, as we have finally finished our music video so this is all we have left to do.

What have you contributed this week?

This week was to get our draft version of our music video finished by Thursday which we did, and we got feedback from the rest of the class and our teacher on what we need to improve on in our music video and if we have to re-shoot anything. Luckily we dont need to add in much just more close ups during the second verse and parts of the band performance, some transitions and also to make the green screen look more tidy.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

Overall this week has fitted into are production schedule quite well as we have finished the draft version of our music video to the deadline and all we have to do now is add a few more things to it.

Were there any problems?

During this week there wasn't really any problems when it came to the editing besides the chroma key as some of the green from the shots were harder to remove than others, but we got the majority of the green out.

What are your plans for the following week?

This week is our final we on the editing of our music video, so during this week we will be finishing it of in lesson and also staying after school for some days as well, so hopefully we will be finished by the deadline.

What have you contributed this week?

This week we have carried on from last week which is the editing stage and also this week we have re-shot some of our green screen we did the previous week. Overall this week has just been an continuation from last week and the editing that we have done is looking quite cool.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

Even though we had to re-shoot green screen shots this week it didn't effect our production schedule as they were small parts which is quite good and from the looks of our edited footage our music video seems to be how we wanted it to be.

Were there any problems?

During this week the only problem that really occurred was having to re-shoot some of the green screen shots as it when filming it the first time I fiddled with the camera too much and when we went over the clips during edit it missed out the main parts we needed. But, re-shooting didn't take long and now we have more of a variety of camera movement for those scenes.

What are your plans for the following week?

For this week the plans are to get a edited draft of our music video finished by Thursday so that we have the weekend to re-shoot if we need to, other than that its just editing until we have got a draft of our music video.

What have you contributed this week?

During this week we have completed the last part of our filming which was the green-screen, band performance scene and also have got all of the mini sketches recorded. We have imported all of our footage into the Mac and have started to put some of the clips together in final cut pro. Overall this week has gone quite good.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

All the filming has been done to the schedule and also I have noticed that we have started to edit our clips quite early than from the schedule but this isn't a problem at all. The overall idea of the project seems to have come out quite well due to the clips we have already put together its looks exactly like how we planned it, which is a cool thing.

       Were there any problems?

During this week there wasn't any problems at all, we have completely finished our filming and have already started to editing them all together. The only problem that would really have effect would be if we need to re-shoot vital scenes, as the blow up doll has decided to create a rip which makes it keep deflating.
What are your plans for the following week?
For the coming week both me and my partner will continue editing, and if we notice along the way that we need to re-shoot some shots we will try and do it.

What have you contributed to this week?

This week we started with our filming and throughout the week me and my partner have switched the director and filming role as he is better suited with the camera than me, but we have both equally shared each role. During the week we have filmed the majority of the shots, but still have some to do inside school which should work out fine and also we have kept too our filming schedule quite well and have added in a few extra shots as we thought some of the new shots would work better than the ones we already thought of doing, but will still kept the same concept.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

Overall the filming has fit in to our schedule quite well and me and my partner have switched the director and filming roles as it through the first day of filming it seems as the filming role was better for him while director was better for me. Also the footage that we have filmed so far looks like how we want our idea to come out like, which is a good thing.

Were there any problems?

On the first day of filming we did have quite a big problem as the tri-pod was unable to stay in one position, which came to be quite a hassle, so we had to try and find another tri-pod which we did in the end, other than that the filming went quite well.

What are your plans for the following week?

The plans for this week shall be to get the final shots that we need in school of the band performance and also we might upload the footage we have already got and see if we need to re-shoot anything.

Production Log 2

What have you contributed to this week?
This is the second week of pre-production and both me and my partner have finished all of the paperwork towards our music video and have both finished our 100 shot list, so now we are able to know exactly what is happening in each shot of our music video. Also this week we went back to Romford to ask around at stores again but they still disagreed us filming in their stores, but this doesn't matter any more as we have come up with another idea that will we use for that scene of the music video.

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?
This fits in with our production schedule quite smoothly as we know exactly what days this week were filming and what were filming. With the idea,we did have to change the location for some of the scenes, but overall that isn't a major disaster, as both me and my partner have talked about it and have decided to film somewhere else.

Were there any problems?
During this week there wasn't any problems as we both had finished the paperwork on time and we know exactly what were doing when it comes to filming.
What are your plans for the following week?

The plans for this weeks will be to start filming the majority of our shots, and luckily there are no problems when it comes to the locations. We have all of the props we need for filming so this week shall go quite smoothly and hopefully when we return to school we would have finished filming the majority of the music video.

Jobs roles and responsibilities

Jobs roles and responsibilities

The main two jobs for this project are:

. Camera Operator & editor
. Director & Production manager

As both me and my partner have combined both of our ideas together we will be helping each other out when it comes to the filming and making sure the other agrees on the shot that is happening at the time. But, I think out of the two allocated jobs I think we both will be sharing each role, as we both have clear ideas in our heads off what we want our music video to look like but I think the allocated role of being Director and Production manger will lead more towards my partner as he is very confident and clear when it comes to explaining things, which will help the filming run smoothly. So overall the main job that I will be doing would be operating the camera, as I consider myself more as an listener rather than giving out instructions, so I think the role would suit me more, but also my partner will be filming as well, as this project is a team effort and its good to even each job out. When it comes to the editing stage of the music video we both will be doing it as it will be done much quicker when were together as we both would know which part goes where. During all production stages me and my partner will help each other out so that the end result of our music video is a cool and good one.

Permission for filming

The locations that we are planning to use for filming are the main actress house, a park or fairlop waters, Hainault Forest and a shopping centre. With all of the locations besides the shopping centre we do not need any written conformation to film, but for the shopping centre with have sent emails asking for permission to film and have even gone round to individuals stores and asking for permission, but unfortunately we haven't been able to get permission from any of them.

This image here is of the email that I have written out and sent shopping centres asking for permission to film. This email here is also towards the London Borough of South walk as I recently contacted the London council and they replied saying to contact this email address asking for permission ,but have not received an email back yet.

This here is a reply I got back from the shopping centre lakeside. Unfortunately we got denied permission for filming in the building itself but she said that individual stores might allow us. The problem with this is that lakeside has quite a lot of big branded stores and from what we have gathered already they don't want us filming inside there store because it might gives other shops there clothing line etc.

I sent an email to the London council asking for permission to film on the southbank. This image here is of an replied email from the London council telling us to contact the London Borough of Southwark for permission to film on southbank, which I have sent of but have not yet received a reply

Production log

What have you contributed to this week?

This is the first week of pre-production and so far me and my partner have divided up the work equally and have started to plan out the dates of filming, and the actual idea in more depth so that we know what to include in each shot. Also during this week we went around looking for stores and asking permission if we would be able to film inside there store and got a reply back from the manager of Lakeside asking for permission to film, but unfortunately she said no to it, but she said that we might be able to ask individual stores.

Reply from the manager of Lakeside

How does this fit in to your production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

With the production schedule it could become an issue, due to not knowing when or if we would be able to shoot the shots we want in the store and maybe result in us changing the idea of those shots, but hopefully that wont become a issue as we both we go out again during the week and asking more stores for there permission to film.

Were there any problems?

During this week the only problem that has came up is that during the weekend we went to Romford to ask shop owners if they would give us permission to film in there store, unfortunately we go denied for filming due to store policy s. Two of the shops we went to said to come in during the holidays and it will be fine, but it doesn't seem the most reliable option as its not for certain that we would be able to film, so it would damage are production schedule. But other than that this week has gone quite smoothly towards the pre-production stage, and now we have also thought out our idea in more depth so we have a clearer image in our heads of what the outcome of the shots will be.

What are your plans for the following week?

For this week the plans are to expand are locations further by visiting other shopping centres so hopefully by the end of this week we might have a place to film the scenes. Also this week we will be finishing off our location recces and getting the cast members to sign the form that shows that they know what they have signed up for, and also we will be finishing off are 100 shot list.

This here is a permission form that me and my partner made
for the stores that we visited, outlining what we plan to do in there store.
Unfortunately  though we didn't get any signed.

Music video pitch and feedback

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give more detail on?

In the presentation I think I would want to give more detail on the target audience section as I think I didn't explain it that clearly and just outlined the small parts of it, and I think if I explained it more such as the ethnicity part of it, its likely that it would of made more sense or so. Also another area that I think could of had more detail would be the song and lyrics section, as I don't think I really talked about it much of how it links in with the music video idea, plus I think I could of spoken louder and a bit more clearer. Also during the presentation I think I could of maybe tried to use a bit more of media terminology, to help back up my points as well.

What did the audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea?

During the feedback part of it the audience didn't really identify any specific strengths of my music video, so I'm taking it as I don't need to improve anything on my actual idea for my music video.

What did your audience identify as areas for improvement?

As an area for improvement someone asked a question about how would I make the artist stand out, and at first I didn't really think it being that much of a deal, but after listening to their ideas on how the artist could stand out at 2:17 as it seems like it could make the music video more engaging to watch and when listening to the audience talk about the ideas of making the artist stand out, to me it sounded like a new fun way to approach the concept of the video. Also the audience raised a point due to the cast and the person I chose to be the camera man as I included the same person to be in both, which I didn't think about beforehand, as it would cause trouble when it comes to filming  but now I suppose I might have to change the male for the cast, or as the in the feedback video the audience talks about combining two video ideas together which involves a blow up doll, so in the end there might not even need to be a male cast member as the doll would represent the male.

what changes will you make to your music video concept based on the feedback you received?

Based on the audiences feedback I have took it into consideration about making the artist stand out more by maybe combing two opposite themes together such as the audience said dressing the artist up in beach clothing and maybe have them in a setting where you wouldn't really see it such as shopping mall, forest etc. Also with the beach theme clothing they could also be holding a blowing up ball or a bucket and spade to make it seem even more ridiculous. Also as my music video concept is too do with an relationship, maybe one of the partners could be all dressed extravagantly while the other one is dressed in casual clothing. Also from the feedback that I received I gathered that the song that I chose would better fit another persons video concept, which I think is a good idea as the audience said that the song I chose has more of a humorous and energetic feeling and tone to it and that would go better with the blow up doll concept.

Creating my artists identity

Artist name- !The Big Hurt!. This band currently  belongs to the record label "Stay Humble Music".

Age- The age range would be around 20-30,because from the image at the top you can clearly see that there not teenagers.

Gender- Male

Location- The location for the band is in Kent Island which is located in Maryland, America.

Ethnicity-  The ethnicity of the band is white males.

Brief History- In 1988 a few members of the band wanted to combine different genres of music such as  Reggae, Funk, Acid Jazz, Ska and Punk and Drum-n-Bass. They also then recruited to new members to the band after sending out musician wanted ads and these two new members bought new features into the band and also brought in more experience to the band as well. The band has also released an album called "lessons" which includes quite a lot of different genres of music such as reggae, alternative rock, jazz etc.

Clothing

I have decided to choose the pieces of clothing because I think the band doesn't really focus on there physical appearance as much as they focus on their music, as from there profile picture you can clearly see that the band members are dressed quite casual for males their age. But, I could see a few band members wearing t-shirts that have the bands logo on them (if there is one), but other than that I think they would be wearing quite casual clothing. Even though there music is quite funky and new, I think they would keep a simple style of clothing because they rather have there music be heard than what there appearance is.

Typography

The reason I have decided to choose these types of typography is because when I listen to there song "low Dow Ho" quite a lot of bright colours come into my mind and I think these colours represent the bands music as there music holds quite a lot of different genres and each genre could represent a different colour and it could reach out to there audience more. Also by having bright colours it is able to grab the audiences attention as its more in your face, than rather having quite plain colours, which would come across as boring. Also I think the personality of the band would come across more in there typography than their appearance ,because there look would be quite casual so it would come down to there typography to grab the audiences attention and become recognisable.

Mise-en-scene objects,settings,lighting,

dark lighting

bright lighting

When it comes to mise-en-scene I think quite a few things can be put in to their music video. As in the song it can be taking in an interpretive way for example in the lyrics it says "And remote control at the pawn store" and the visuals could show the actor walking into the pawn store, plus the money image also relates to the pawn store. When it comes to lighting I think it can be based around both light and dark, as maybe if the music video focuses on a relationship the bright light can connote the happiness of the relationship while the dark light can connote the destruction and sadness of the relationship. Also, the reason why I included an image of a teddy bear is because it could connote some sort of happiness between the couple, as a sort of special possession. When it comes to settings there could be quite a variety, as the image of the garage could be the band playing. The image of the town being a sort of extra shots and a home where the couple could live etc.

colours

The reason why I have decided to choose these colours is because I think that the band members themselves come across as ordinary but there music is where all the colours and imagination comes from. Also when listening to their song it comes across as being lively and energetic and I think that bright colours are able to put across the effect of being energetic.

Imagery

When listening to their song quite a few different images come into mind and they are quite different from one another. The main thing that comes to mind is how a relationship starts of all nice and sweet and then it turns out to be horrible, which results in the couple arguing, which three of the images I have chosen shows. The song also evokes a lot of smashing of objects and destruction, mainly because when the songs tempo picks up, the tone of it is fast and aggressive, and I just imagine the couple throwing plates at each other. But, also when the tempo pick up it could have shots between the band and the couple. The reason why I used the images of a man tied up and the woman in green is because also what comes to my mind is that their is this crazy and unstable woman that is keep her boyfriend hostage and treats him like a doll. The image of the cigarette is something that comes up in the   chorus of the song, and the repeat of it just sticks in my mind.

Photo of person I would like to play my actress

In my music video, I would consider Rianne for playing the female in the video as I think she would come across as the ideal girlfriend role and also I could imagine her being able to play the crazy woman role as well, as she isn't camera shy and has an energetic personality to her.
